A Korean breed associated with Jindo Island. Use its hunting background and double coat as context, then assess the individual dog’s history and responses.

Weight
15–23 kg
Lifespan
12–15 years
Weight and lifespan are reference ranges from the breed guide. They vary by sex, lineage and individual dog and do not predict your dog’s ideal weight or lifespan. Read the care descriptions alongside the individual dog’s history.
Background and characteristics
The FCI Korea Jindo Dog standard identifies Korean origins and a hunting role. Descriptions of alertness and hunting instinct provide context, not a prediction of how every Jindo behaves around people or animals.
Temperament and living together
Ask the current carer for specific examples: what happens at an open door, when a visitor approaches, or when another animal appears? Use those observations to plan entrances, walking equipment and responsibilities. No single fence height or training timetable can be assumed sufficient for every dog.
Exercise and play
Plan exercise around familiar activities, rest, age and health instead of a universal number of minutes. Record repeated difficulties and discuss them with an appropriate professional. Do not assume behaviour cannot change after a particular birthday.
The standard describes an outer coat and soft undercoat; ask which grooming tools and handling the dog already accepts. A native breed still needs individual health assessment and a handover of veterinary records.
